Man dies in crash into Donut Parade
A driver who struck a north Spokane doughnut shop early Tuesday morning died at the scene.
The Spokane County medical examiner identified the deceased as 57-year-old Richard Malmoe.
The car was driving north on Hamilton Street when it left the road, hit a street sign and crashed into Donut Parade, 2152 N. Hamilton St.
Preliminary investigation indicates the driver may have had a medical problem, said Spokane police Sgt. Terry Preuninger.
In a post on the store’s Facebook page, customers were encouraged to say a prayer for the family and friends of the person involved in the crash.
After closing in 2016, Donut Parade reopened last March.
The crash damaged the outside of the historic brick building, though not significantly, Preuninger said.
“While it destroyed a flower pot outside, it appears that the building is OK,” Preuninger said.
The investigation is ongoing. .
