Libertarian hopes to upset party in Spokane’s historically Democratic 3rd Legislative District

For Libertarian Randy McGlenn II, the best way to get something done is to do it yourself. After years of watching voters elect Democratic leaders in the 3rd Legislative District, and after years of hearing stories of residents feeling they weren’t being represented, the longtime IT worker decided to run against incumbent Democrat Marcus Riccelli in 2014. He didn’t make it out of the primary, earning less than 8 percent of the vote.

Free Rein Therapeutic Riding makes home at Spokane Equestrian Center

Free Rein Therapeutic Riding has a new home at the Spokane Equestrian Center. The nonprofit has access to its own outdoor arena and indoor tack up area, and the ability to keep as many as 15 horses on site. The horses, aided by volunteers, give rides to people with a variety of disabilities every week.

Gabriele Tilley’s garden style can be summed up as reduce, reuse and recycle. Her Lake Spokane garden is a wonderful collage of repurposed yard sale finds, castoff building materials and an eclectic mix of recycled and bargain plants set off by choice finds from the Friends of Manito plant sales. Her creativity won her the August Garden of the Month from The Inland Empire Gardeners.

Westview will host ceremony

Woman’s 13,000 hours helping veterans leads to award

Jeannie Kyle is the person in charge of scheduling those 48 drivers and nine vans, and she’s racked up some impressive statistics, too. In August, the 62-year-old hospital service coordinator was honored with the Seal Award at the DAV National Convention in Atlanta for having amassed 14,000 volunteer hours.

In last week’s Education Notebook, Tristin Twin and Jordan Willson’s names were misspelled. Collin Jurenka was accidentally omitted from the list of scholarship recipients. Also, Karin Steever, Drew Vanderpool and Kristi Cysewski are teachers, not students.
