SPS thespians earn recognition

Students from several Spokane Public Schools high schools competed in the Regional Thespian Festival last month. These students will represent their schools at the Washington State Thespian Festival at Central Washington University in March and the National Thespian Festival, which takes place at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Nebraska, in June. The following students were recognized as yellow ribbon recipients: Reece Duncan (Shadle Park High School), Alycia Linton (North Central High School), Harley Belisle (Ferris High School), Mason Bower-Wade (Ferris), Dana Colley (Ferris) and Nina Maysonet (Ferris).

Feature Creature: Tigger, an adoptable cat

Tigger was brought in to Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Service with several other cats that all need a new home. Shelter workers say he’s a cuddler with a beautiful coat to match his great personality.

“Pollinator Friendly Gardening” devotes whole chapters to what pollinator insects need to thrive in a garden: water, shelter and food. It also addresses the fact that gardens planted with native plants attract and keep larger populations of pollinators than a garden full of conventional plants.

Landmarks: Barn stands tall, 100 years later

The Painter barn is easy to see from a distance. It stands tall out in the Palouse, some 16 miles southwest of Cheney. It has been there for 100 years and remains today what it has always been, a working barn.

SNAP offers finance classes

SPOKANE COUNTY – SNAP is offering free classes on how to improve your financial stability at three county libraries: Deer Park, Argonne and Cheney. The classes are, Give Yourself a Raise and Navigating Your Credit. Participants will learn how to access and understand credit reports, and how to make a budget and establish financial goals.

The list of requests is coordinated by the Volunteers of America in cooperation with recognized social service agencies in Spokane. If you have an item to donate, please contact the social service agency directly. Donors who can deliver items are especially appreciated.
