Senate President Pro-Tem Brent Hill and House Speaker Lawerence Denney are addressing the Idaho Press Club today, and Denney, mentioning the $35.7 million income tax cut bill that's passed the House, said, "I'm sure that the Senate will be taking that up and probably improving on it in some manner in the next few days." Hill responded, "We always pride ourselves on improving the tax bills that come over." He said Senate Republicans will caucus on the issue on Thursday, to discuss "some alternatives there."

They might include things like reducing the rates a bit less, perhaps lowering the individual income tax to the corporate rate, while also accelerating the trigger on granting relief for the first $100,000 of personal property tax, Hill said. "That comes out with approximately the same dollar cost." Another alternative might be to route some of the money to reserves instead. But Hill said, "I think whatever we come up with, we're going to be looking within the dollar range of what the House is looking for."
