Mailbag: How Much Are You Willing To Pay, DFO?

Thom George: OK, DFO, how much money are you willing to pay (to get the Government Way bridge finished more quickly)? I'm sure anything can be done faster if you pony up the bucks. I'm constantly amazed by the number of people who can find something to complain about when they are directly impacted, yet would be the first ones to balk at paying for better or quicker service. I'm sure there are many parents of school age children who'd love updated text books, larger, less crowded classrooms, but either wouldn't vote for the tax dollars needed to accomplish this, or wouldn't even vote one way or the other. Same with the jail; we want the judges to "lock 'em up", but we don't want to pay for more jail cells.

DFO: Boy, did you miss this one by a mile, Thom. I editorialized and voted for both the $40 million school levy and the half-cent sales tax for expand the jail. I've never voted against a school levy or bond in the 22 years I've been in this county -- even during the years my children were attending private schools. I editorialized and voted for the new CDA library and the public safety bond. So, you're saying that isn't enough? And I make sure there's a least one voice in the community raised when Uncle Duane tries to invade public places. So, you're saying that isn't enough?
