Jaquet Wants To Review Exemptions
In Idaho, there’s no sales tax on caskets. Nor is there a tax on school lunches, meals for seniors, or health and medical services. If you buy something from a vending machine, there’s no tax, either. Those are just a few examples of the state’s tax exemptions. Rep. Wendy Jaquet,D-Ketchum, is sponsoring a bill that would create a review committee that would look over all tax exemptions the state has on an ongoing basis and make regular recommendations to the Legislature about whether the exemptions should continue. “People would have to come in to justify what they want,” said Jaquet, a member of the House Revenue and Taxation Committee/Ben Botkin, Twin Falls Times-News. Question: Do you believe that most exemptions now allowed by Idaho law are justified? Or do they need to be reviewed regularly to see if they continue to serve their original purpose?
