Raid Targets Massage Parlors

Eight suspected brothels were raided across the Spokane area today by a multi-agency prostitution task force. The businesses, mostly operating as day spas and massage parlors, are believed to have been front organizations for a widespread prostitution ring, authorities said. Six homes belonging to the owners also were searched. The raids began simultaneously today at noon, said Officer Jennifer DeRuwe, spokeswoman for the Spokane Police Department. The yearlong investigation reportedly was launched after officials with the Northern Quest Casino in Airway Heights contacted police with concern about prostitution activity. Several arrests were made in conjunction with the raids. Suspects are expected to face money laundering, criminal profiteering and prostitution charges/Meghann Cuniff, SR. More here.

Question: A Facebook Friend writes: "So Spokane thinks sending 200 taxpayer-funded police officers on a prostitution sting is a good use of law enforcement's time and our money. I think it's a shameful waste? What do you think?
