A Closer View of Brent Regan

YouTube Video of Brent Regan speaking to Tea Party of North Idaho gathering on June 14, 2009.

I hadn't paid much attention to Brent Regan before the recent flap involving his insensitive, anti-Obama "joke" at the legislative forum in Post Falls. I knew that he'd spoken at a Tea Party event a few years ago because I've seen a photo of him leaving the speaker's lecturn. Also, I know that he's an activist who took to the streets to demonstrate against Kootenai County's proposed Unified Land Use Building Code and that he subscribes to the idea that the county is in danger of embracing planning concepts fostered by the United Nations (Agenda 21). Click here. Obviously, he's intelligent. A Google of his name provides this information re: his remarkable engineering work via Regan Designs. Click here. Here's what is said about him from his trustee profile on the Coeur d'Alene School Board Web site: "Brent understands that education is of paramount importance to our future prosperity. His experience as a job creator gives him a clear understanding of what knowledge and skills our children will need to be successful and happy in a changing world."

Question: Obviously, Brent Regan is a brilliant individual. And has something to offer the Coeur d'Alene School District in terms of his vast engineering experience. But I consider his political activism while holding a nonpartisan position to be bothersome. What do you think?
