Wild Card/Thursday — 4.21.16

In the comment section, Wheels said that I shouldn't endorse candidates here because I'm an "employee" of the SR and not the SR itself. He has a point. But I need to point out that for 13 years I was responsible for the paper's endorsement of candidates in Idaho. In all that time, I had only one endorsement rejected -- for Idaho governor in 1994. I recommended Republican Phil Batt. The board initially approved the recommendation but then editor Chris Peck argued the next day that two Editorial Board members were missing. So we took another vote -- and the board OK'd the endorsement of Larry EchoHawk on a 5-4 vote. Batt, of course, won -- and served well during his one term. Batt never let me forget that endorsement. Long and short. I'm not going to endorse here. But I will tell you how I'm going to vote if you ask. Here's today's Wild Card ...
