Fair thefts: Giant lizard, golf cart

During the North Idaho State Fair, Kootenai County deputies responded to 66 calls for service within the fairgrounds. There was also an excess of 20 calls for service relating to separated children that deputies and volunteer search and rescue members responded to. Highlights from the Sheriff’s Command Post dispatch log:

  • Wednesday, August 24 – 10:52 PM: Plainclothes deputies arrested three carnival workers for possession of drugs, possession with intent to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia.
  • Thursday, August 25 – 9:15 AM: Security staff reported a traffic offense from previous night. 8:34 PM: deputies responded to a theft report – property later located. 9:15 PM: Found debit card – released to owner.
  • Friday, August 26 – 11:20 PM: A carnival worker reported the theft of an 8 foot stuffed lizard from his booth. 11:30 PM: Fair employee reported the theft of a golf cart from the food court, it was later located but several two-way radios were stolen from it.
