30 Years Ago: From the Files of Huckleberries Online (March 2, 1987):

Commissioner Frank Henderson remembered his "special friend" Roy Bodine, who died a week ago, in an anecdote that dates to his first months as Post Falls mayor. Less than five months after Henderson took office, Mount St Helens blew. As the ash began to fall, the rookie mayor sought out Bodine, the longtime Post Falls highway commissioner. Whatever else you do, advised Bodine, make sure you order all city workers to mark down the time they spend combating the catastrophe. That sage advice made the city of Post Falls eligible for thousands of dollars in reimbursements when federal aid became available. Such wisdom will be sorely missed.
