Panel kills school gun-safety bill

After much debate and lots of questions, the House Education Committee voted 9-6 this morning to kill legislation proposed by Rep. Ron Nate, R-Rexburg, encouraging Idaho schools to offer elective gun-safety courses. Here’s how the vote broke down:

Voting to kill the bill: Reps. Amador, Clow, VanOrden, McDonald, Kerby, Cheatham, Kloc, Toone and McCrostie.

Voting against the move: Reps. Shepherd, Boyle, Mendive, DeMordaunt, Moon and Syme.
