Man gets 5 years for fatal ‘09 crash

A 21-year-old Otis Orchards man was sentenced to about five years in prison today for a June 2009 crash that killed a 19-year-old woman and injured another man.

Alex C. Walker, 21, pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide and was ordered by Superior Court Judge Greg Sypolt to serve 59 months in prison. His 20-month sentence for vehicular assault will run concurrently.

Walker turned himself in after the June 26, 2009, crash that killed 19-year-old pedestrian.

Jennings' 22-year-old friend broke both his legs. The two were walking in the road in the 14200 block of East Rockwell Avenue at 3 a.m. when they were struck by a 1979 Chrysler Cordoba driven by Walker, according to court records.

Walker then drove away from the scene but called Spokane Valley Police 45 minutes after the crash and was taken into custody at a convenience store on Barker Road.

He's now awaiting transport to prison.
