Lots of WSU, Pac-10 news

COUGARS

Just another simple day yesterday. Right. Well that means lots of reading for you. We've got it all on the link. Read on.
••••••••••

• Washington State: After the win last week, you would have thought Tuesday was going to be one of those upbeat days around the Cougar offices and practice fields. You would have been wrong. The news about James Montgomery overshadowed that. A quick note about acute compartment syndrome. As the story says, even though you might not have heard about it, and it's an injury with a strange name, it is deadly if left untreated. At the very least, according to doctors, the longer you wait for treatment, the more affected an area – like a leg – becomes, meaning if it gets too bad the loss of a limb can occur. That's why the surgery is done so quickly. So, though Montgomery is out for the year and possibly may never get to play football again, it could have been worse, much worse. ... We also had our story on the Phase III jump start, our Pac-10 notebook and our practice report from last night (at the bottom of the post). ... Freelancer Howie Stalwick has his WSU notebook. ... Bud Withers of the Times covers the Martin Stadium news. ... ESPN.com's Ted Miller goes over the Cougars' injury woes. ... Want to spend time listening to Wulff's press conference or reading about his radio show? Check these links. ... Finally, here's one opinion concerning Saturday's game in LA. There's probably a lot of truth to it.

• Around the Pac-10: Miller explains how the conference's secondaries have done a great job stealing footballs. ... Withers goes into depth about Chip Kelly's refund. ... Nick Daschel previews the upcoming Saturday in this podcast. ... Washington: Everyone in the Northwest already knew how good Jake Locker is. Now, according to Bob Condotta, the rest of the country is learning as well. ... If former catchers make the best managers, then UW is trying to prove former quarterbacks make the best coaches. ... Oregon State: Just another Tuesday at the Beavers' practice. ... Oregon: The Ducks' line needs to step up. ... Cal: The Bears have an edge with the Pac-10 opener looming. ... Stanford: If anybody knows how Washington is feeling this week, it's the Cardinal. ... A sixth-year senior is getting time on the offensive line. ... USC: The Trojans are beat up. Maybe even vulnerable, but Matt Barkley says he will play. ... ...UCLA: The Bruins are getting back to basics during their bye week. ... Arizona State: They are not only playing Georgia, the Sun Devils are also competing against the Athens' atmosphere. ... Arizona: There's not a lot of film of new quarterback Nick Foles available for the opposition.

• That's this morning's item. We'll be back later with our story and a practice report. Don't get impatient. I'm typing as fast as I can. Until then …
