COUGARS

FROM PULLMAN -- It's another off-day for Washington State, with the long week and everything following the Thursday opener. But three WSU players, as well as coach Mike Leach, will be made available to the media later this afternoon. We'll pass along every word. First, as usual, there are links to read.

...

For Monday's newspaper, we wrote about Mike Leach's insistence that WSU dial in and improve its effort immediately. Also, there are additional notes from practice on the blog. ... Howie Stalwick features two of Eastern Washington's receivers who are part of one of the country's most prolific passing attacks. ... The Columbian chips in some interesting perspective about another Pac-12 coach who lost badly in his debut, and things turned out pretty well for him.

Around the Pac-12 ... Washington knows it needs to improve to have any kind of chance against LSU next week. ... Surprisingly, Arizona threw the ball more than it ran in its season-opening win over Toledo. ... Three suspended Arizona State players will be back on the field for ASU's second game. ... USC says it won't be distracted by new NCAA allegations. ... UCLA has quite the show planned for its home opener against Nebraska. ... Utah recorded a pretty impressive drive in its win over Northern Colorado. ... Colorado isn't looking past Sacramento State. ... Oregon State thinks the postponement of its season opener might be a blessing in disguise, though something tells me that folks who were actually affected by Hurricane Isaac might feel just a bit differently. ... Poor Oregon. The Ducks have to figure out a way to navigate all these blowouts.

We'll be back with plenty more from WSU's media availability today.
