Edwards discusses redshirt decision

It probably would have been ideal if center Ryan Edwards had the opportunity to redshirt last season but the Zags' lack of interior depth took away that option. The opposite is true this year (if GU stays healthy) with three players capable of playing the '5' in Przemek Karnowski, Domas Sabonis and Kyle Wiltjer.

So Edwards, now a sophomore, has opted to redshirt, which gives him a chance to work on his game and body and potentially earn more minutes down the road.

Freshmen guards Silas Melson and Bryan Alberts have bright futures but they are considering redshirting because minutes could be scarce in Gonzaga's experienced backcourt (Pangos, Bell, Wesley, Dranginis and eventually McClellan).

Edwards discussed his decision and I outlined the prospects for Melson and Alberts here.
