Gay Marriage Banned in California

California, the first state in the US to allow gay marriages, has now banned them after Proposition 8, which wsa created to reverse legal same-sex marriages, passed yesterday. There were similar propositions passed in other states, and a law in Arkansas now prevents unmarried couples from adopting or fostering children.

The story is here

I must say, I'm furious about this. I do not believe that people's religious beliefs about marriage should prevent others from marrying, and I do not believe that religious-based laws such as this should exist.

Do you agree that same-sex marriages should be banned? Do you agree that it is in a homeless child's best interest to be prevented from living with a couple that is not married (this includes unmarried heterosexual couples)?

In 2006, then-editor Steve Smith of The Spokesman-Review had the idea of starting a publication for an often forgotten audience: teenagers. The Vox Box was a continuation of the Vox, an all-student staffed newspaper published by The Spokesman-Review. High school student journalists who staffed the Vox made all content decisions as they learn about the trade of journalism. This blog's mission was to give students an opportunity to publish their voices. The Vox Box and the Vox wrapped up in June 2009, but you can follow former staffers' new blog at http://voxxiez.blogspot.com.
