NWC putting on Crusader Sports Camp

Northwest Christian School is inviting boys and girls entering first through eighth grades to its Crusader Sports Camp, Tuesday. The camps, which include boys basketball, football and baseball, and girls softball, basketball and volleyball, will be held in four 90-minute sessions each day. Athletes can sign up for more than one session.

Three area high school students have received Eastern Washington University’s Presidential Scholarship, worth $3,000, for the 2015-16 school year. Koby Wilburn (Mead High School), Katya Salnikova (Summit Christian Academy) and Jarrett Browning (Mt. Spokane High School) plan to attend Eastern in the fall.

The Lewis and Clark High School Tiger Drama Department’s production of “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” premiers tonight. The musical follows J. Pierrepont Finch, a window washer who bluffs his way into a job in the mailroom of the World Wide Wicket Company, and the lives of other Wicket employees.

SPS thespians earn recognition

Students from several Spokane Public Schools high schools competed in the Regional Thespian Festival last month. These students will represent their schools at the Washington State Thespian Festival at Central Washington University in March and the National Thespian Festival, which takes place at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Nebraska, in June. The following students were recognized as yellow ribbon recipients: Reece Duncan (Shadle Park High School), Alycia Linton (North Central High School), Harley Belisle (Ferris High School), Mason Bower-Wade (Ferris), Dana Colley (Ferris) and Nina Maysonet (Ferris).

Education Notebook: Event offers help on college financial aid form

Spokane Community College will host a College Goal Washington event Saturday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. At the event, part of the statewide 12th Year Campaign, which is run by the Washington Student Achievement Council, trained volunteers will help students and parents fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA.

Mountainside wins competition to name planet, star

Last year, the eighth-grade class from Mountainside Middle School entered an International Astronomical Union contest to name an ExoWorld star and the exoplanet orbiting it. Its submissions, “Ran,” for the star, and “Aegir,” for the planet, were recently chosen as the winners.
