Blake Shelton mines ‘Voice’ talent RaeLynn and Sundance Head for opening slots on latest tour

Since his 2001 debut, Blake Shelton has made a name for himself as one of country music’s most popular voices. In recent years though, the country superstar has been mentoring the next generation of country artists as a coach on the singing competition show “The Voice.” Two of these artists, RaeLynn and Sundance Head, are opening for him on his “Doing It to Country Songs” tour, which stops by the Spokane Arena on Friday.

Education notebook: Mt. Spokane High School DECA club raises $5,300 for Second Harvest Food Bank

For the third year in a row, Mt. Spokane High School’s DECA club has won the Tackle Hunger competition, which raises money for Second Harvest Food Bank. This year, the club raised more than $5,300, which would provide 26,500 meals. The school received a trophy and a scholarship donation from Darigold. In the last three years, Mt. Spokane DECA has raised more than $10,000 for the food bank.

Students support young patients

For the second year in a row, high school students at Northwest Christian Schools have delivered PICC Pal pillows, which go between a peripherally inserted central catheter line and the patient’s skin, to patients at Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital. The school’s Future Business Leaders of America class also teamed with the Crusaders boys and girls basketball teams to raise money for gifts for teens undergoing long-term treatment at Sacred Heart.

Paul Nelson, legendary guitarist, takes front-man spot

At this point in his career, Paul Nelson has pretty much done it all. As a guitarist, he’s worked with Steve Vai, Eric Clapton, Kool and the Gang’s J.T. Taylor, Joe Louis Walker, Lucky Peterson and countless others. He was also the longtime guitarist and friend of legendary blues musician Johnny Winter.
