Boater beware: Lake log boom fails

Boaters on Lake Pend Oreille are urged to watch out for logs and other floating debris after a log boom failed at the Clark Fork Delta’s drift yard. A debris field about 100 yards wide and a quarter mile long has been spotted near Memaloose Island in the lake, according to the Bonner County Sheriff’s Department.

Crowds likely panicked moose

Crowds gawking at a yearling moose that wandered into a north Spokane neighborhood might have frightened the animal, causing it to panic and run into traffic, wildlife officials said. The moose was hit by a driver who didn’t report the accident and was injured so badly that it had to be euthanized once it was finally tranquilized.

ER doc helps save plane crash victim

Mike Ettner, a Kootenai Health ER doctor, was at his Hayden Lake home when he heard a large boom outside, according to Liz Burch/KHQ. Woolworth CdA

At the Old School North Idaho Facebook page, followers are debating when Woolworth's burned in downtown Coeur d'Alene. The store burned April 26, 1980, destroying $300,000 worth of merchandise. It was originally opened in 1933 in the heart of the Great Depression. Coeur d'Alene residents were delighted that they could by things for 5 or 10 cents.
