Permitless carry, other laws to take effect

Idahoans can carry a concealed gun without needing licenses or training starting Friday, just in time for Independence Day. The change is just one of the new laws going into effect on July 1, which is the start of Idaho's new financial calendar. Kimberlee Kruesi/Associated Press looks at important changes below.

Another dog park for Lake City?

Pooches in Coeur d'Alene could have another park to play off-leash in. The city council will be asked to consider creating a dog park at Phippeny Park between north Seventh and Eighth streets. The city's Public Works Committee agreed Monday to forward a request to the city council for consideration.

Istanbul airport attack kills at least 28

New York Times: "Suicide attackers armed with bombs and guns struck Turkey’s largest airport Tuesday night, blowing themselves up in a confrontation with police. Officials said that at least 28 people were killed in the attack, and one official who spoke to The Associated Press put the toll at nearly 50."

One district largely skips SATs

Idaho’s SAT Day scores provide a snapshot that covers most of the state’s high school juniors. But not all of them. All told, 17,470 of Idaho’s 21,367 11th graders took the SAT on April 12 — an 81 percent participation rate. But the 11th-graders in the Sugar-Salem High School in Madison County largely ignores the SATs. Find out why below.

Bonner County Bee reports: "Saying he cannot walk away from the responsibility he feels to ensure the Bonner County Sheriff’s Office is more responsive to the county’s citizens, Terry Ford has announced a write-in campaign for sheriff. Poll: Agree w/UI, BSU alcohol ban

In Monday's poll, most of Hucks Nation agreed with the decision by the Idaho Education Board to ban alcohol to general admission fans at UIdaho and Boise State football games. Editor quits after helping recall effort

Here's a strange story from Libby, Mont: Bob Henline, former editor of the twice-weekly Western News, resigned after it was discovered that he helped draft a petition to recall the city’s mayor. On June 24, The Western News reported that Henline is one of the people behind the effort to remove Libby Mayor Doug Roll from office. Thoughts?

Neighborhood hails drivers’ work

A Coeur d'Alene neighborhood gave Waste Management drivers a fond farewell as they picked up trash for the final time before the company's contract expires. In April, the Coeur d'Alene council voted to switch to Coeur d'Alene Garbage Co, after 16 years with Waste Management. I agree with my neighbors. Waste Management did a great job.
