Trump hails ‘beautiful’ Brexit vote

Speaking on a visit to Scotland, Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican candidate, hailed the Brexit vote. According to the Telegraph News, he said the British people had “taken back their independence” and predicted the end of the EU could be “on its way” with other member states fed up with immigrants flowing across “Swiss cheese” borders.

Calm urged in Twin Falls case

Idaho U.S. Attorney Wendy Olson has issued a statement about the June 2 sexual assault of a 5-year-old girl involving three other children at a low-income apartment complex in Twin Falls that led to false stories, circulated nationally on the internet, about a supposed knifepoint gang-rape by Syrian refugees.

Day 2: Gator on the loose

A 3-foot alligator is still on the loose in Spokane Valley. The manager of the University Mobile Home Park called 911 Wedneday when she learned that one of the residents was keeping an alligator in a covered backyard pond. But the animal and the presumed owner were gone and now the man is saying he has never owned an alligator.

Former Gonzaga Bulldog Domantas Sabonis became the second highest draft pick in program history when the Orlando Magic made the talented forward the 11th pick in Thursday’s NBA draft. Sabonis wasn’t with the Magic for long. Minutes after his selection was announced, Sabonis, Victor Oladipo and Ersan Ilyasova were traded to Oklahoma City.

School board members in Coeur d’Alene were surprised this week to learn the school district’s hired leader is not, and has not been, registered to vote in Idaho. A Press investigation revealed Superintendent Matt Handelman owns a home in Coeur d’Alene, but he is registered to vote at a Spokane address.

June is filled with many milestones for me. Mrs. O and I celebrated our 41st anniversary Tuesday. I began newspapering with the Chico (Calif) Enterprise Record 46 years ago in June. And today is my mother's 91st birthday. Physically, she has gone through some tough times this year after falling in January. But she's still alert and feisty.

3 large districts still negotiating

Three of the state’s six largest school districts will head into the 2016-17 budget year without a contract agreement with teachers. The immediate impact may be limited. Administrators and teachers’ unions in West Ada, Nampa and Coeur d’Alene plan to continue negotiating into July, or beyond.

Reward for wolf pup killer now $15K

The reward offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons who illegally killed wolf pups after removing them from a northern Idaho den near Coeur d'Alene is up to $15,000. The Humane Society of the United States and Humane Society Wildlife Land Trust on Thursday added $5,000 to the award.

Deputy catches felon with 9mm handgun

Late Wednesday night, a Kootenai County sheriff's deputy pulled over a vehicle that was weaving between lanes on I-90 near the State Line. What he discovered there led to the arrest of Daniel J.M. Lewis, 33, of Spokane, who was on felony probation for 2013 robbery conviction. The deputy also allegedly confiscated a 9mm handgun.

Labrador backs court amnesty ruling

Rep. Raúl Labrador, R-Idaho, issued the following statement after the U.S. Supreme Court’s 4-4 decision in United States v. Texas. The Court kept in place a 2015 decision by the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals holding that President Obama’s unilateral executive action to confer lawful status to millions of undocumented aliens is unlawful.
