Coeur d’Alene’s boys, girls sweep regionals

The Coeur d’Alene boys and girls cross country teams were perfect at the 5A Region I state-qualifying cross country meet Wednesday afternoon. Both teams scored 15 points with 1-2-3-4-5 finishes. CdA senior Cody Curtis won his first regional championship, finishing the 5,000-meter course at Post Falls High School in 16 minutes, 23 seconds, while Vikings freshman Josie Brown took first (19:15).

Missy Bennett’s plan when she took a teaching position and the head volleyball coaching job at Colville in 1987 was to pay a few bills and return to the life she knew previously as a starving college assistant coach. Here it is 24 years later and Bennett is still at Colville.

GSL football playoff spots remain up for grabs

Things could be clearer or could be just as muddied when Greater Spokane League football concludes the next-to-last week of play Friday. Mead (6-1), Ferris (6-1) and Lewis and Clark (6-1), tied for first, would all go to the State 4A playoffs if things ended right now. Central Valley (5-2) and Gonzaga Prep (5-2) are also in the mix for one of the league’s three State 4A berths.

Post Falls boys, Lewiston girls win regional titles

Two firsts were accomplished at the 5A Region I boys and girls soccer championship matches Saturday afternoon. The Post Falls boys and Lewiston girls captured their first regional titles, doing so in impressive fashion with shutouts. No. 1 seed Post Falls blanked visiting Lake City 3-0 and visiting Lewiston knocked off top-seeded Lake City 2-0.

Tigers continue workmanlike ways

The blue-collar Lewis and Clark Tigers did it again Friday. “We’re not flashy like Ferris and Mead and we’re not blowing any teams out, but we find a way to get it done week in and week out,” senior quarterback Jeff Livingston summed up after the Tigers’ convincing 31-7 victory over the Mt. Spokane Wildcats in Greater Spokane League action at Joe Albi Stadium. The win moved the Tigers into a three-way tie for first place with Ferris and Mead.
