Success didn’t come overnight for the Washington State University volleyball program. It’s been a slow, steady build under coach Jen Greeny that resulted in 2016’s breakout season. The goal this season is to show staying power in the nation’s toughest conference, and early indications are encouraging.

Golf with Jim Meehan: Wendy Ward back for more at Solheim Cup

Still in celebration mode shortly after the U.S. team’s stunning rally to win the 2015 Solheim Cup in Germany, Juli Inkster was asked if she wanted to return as captain in 2017. “Juli kind of looked up at us and said, ‘Are you ready to go?’ ” recalled Wendy Ward, an assistant captain with Pat Hurst and Nancy Lopez. The answer was a resounding yes.

Derek Berg maintains two-shot lead at Rosauers Open

Derek Berg had a wonderful ball-striking round Friday, missing just one fairway and one green. Saturday wasn’t nearly as easy, requiring stroke-saving scrambling and some timely putts. Still, Berg ended the day where he began, with a two-shot lead in the 30th Rosauers Open Invitational at Indian Canyon.
