Shocked silence. That is how Winston Holyfield, a Gonzaga University student, described the scene at the burning of Notre Dame Cathedral, one of the most iconic structures in Paris. Holyfield said that the embers were flying so high in the sky that they look like stars.

Father of Sandy Hook victim who spoke at Gonzaga died by suicide

The father of a six-year-old Sandy Hook Elementary victim died by suicide on Monday. Jeremy Richman spoke at Gonzaga University last April about the connection between the brain and violence, research he and his wife undertook in the aftermath of their daughter’s death.

Methodists in Coeur d’Alene applaud inclusivity sermon

Pastor Heather Seman says the Community United Methodist Church stands for inclusivity, contrary to an international conference of Methodists which upheld a ban on same-sex marriage and gay clergy. About three-quarters of the crowd of about 100 people stood and applauded after her sermon. Her 9 a.m. Sunday service was the first she had led at the church since the conference’s decision.
