Revenge goes awry for Spokane Valley man

An effort at retaliation went badly for a Spokane Valley man on Wednesday night. Roger D. Holmes, 39, went to the apartment of a neighbor armed with a military knife intent on revenge, according to police. He ended up in a downtown Spokane hospital with scissor wounds to the head and now is facing a charge of first-degree assault against the 47-year-old neighbor.

Division project puts safety, aesthetics at fore

District 4 puts levy at same level as one it replaces

Spokane County District No. 4 fire commissioners are taking a conservative approach in asking for renewal of the district’s six-year property tax levy for emergency medical services. State law allows the district to seek up to 50 cents per $1,000 of assessed valuation annually for EMS, but the district is seeking a new six-year levy of 33 cents per $1,000 of value.

Fox theater earns national restoration award

The Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox is being recognized nationally with a preservation award for the $31 million restoration completed in 2007. The Fox, at Sprague Avenue and Monroe Street in downtown Spokane, is one of 23 projects nationwide that will be honored Oct. 29 at the annual conference of the National Trust for Historic Preservation in Austin, Texas.
