Kxly Parent Buys Two Radio Stations

From Staff And Wire Reports

KZZU-FM and KTRW-AM, radio stations known to pop aficionados and sports buffs as The Zoo and The Score, were sold Thursday to the parent company of KXLY-TV/AM/FM.

The sale is contingent on approval by the Federal Communications Commission.

Television and news-talk radio KXLY, owned by The Morgan Murphy Co., will most likely keep the call letters and programming of Top-40 KZZU and sports/news KTRW. Listeners will probably not even notice the transition on The Zoo, said Brian Paul, general manager of the two broadcast outlets.

On the sports station, listeners will likely enjoy beefed-up coverage because the reporting staffs of KTRW and KXLY will be combined, he said.

The stations employ 38 people, all of whom will be retained.
