Dead Have To Move Out To Make Way For Offices

Compiled From Wire Services

In overcrowded Jakarta, the dead are having difficulty finding a place to rest in peace.

Authorities in this city of 10 million people are planning to relocate 1,322 graves next month to make way for building public facilities, Safril Zainuddin, head of the City Funeral Agency, said Friday.

The remains and tombstones will be moved to two public cemeteries outside Jakarta. Their old resting place, in central Jakarta, will be converted into offices and a public park.
