OK, so you won’t be able to make the Statue of Liberty disappear. But you might be able to amaze your friends by changing four nickels to four dimes or by turning blue-dotted playing cards to red through Magic in Your Mailbox, The Trick of the Month Club.

Becoming a magical member for 12 months costs $59.95 plus shipping and handling. Each month you receive a different trick to learn.

“I think a lot more people would have an interest if they had the access and exposure to magic,” said Robert May, 36, the club president. “This mail-order concept is perfect because you get one trick at a time and you master it and you’re not overwhelmed by a bunch of pieces of plastic.”

Club members also receive one videocassette that highlights each trick and a monthly club newsletter called “Hocus Focus” that includes an additional trick to create using household items such as plastic cups and cloth.
