Jail Inmate Caught With Pot In Mouth

From Staff Reports

Sheriff’s officials arrested an inmate already staying at the Kootenai County Jail after he was caught with marijuana in his mouth, according to a Kootenai County sheriff’s report.

Steven P. Hill, 42, of Oregon was charged Thursday with possession of contraband in a jail.

Jail deputies smelled smoke at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. After following the odor to a section of the jail called G Pod, they realized the smoke smelled like marijuana, according to the sheriff’s report.

Jailers searched all the inmates from that section of the jail. One of the deputies saw Hill take a yellow folded sheet of paper from his coverall pocket and then later place something into his mouth, according to the sheriff’s report.

Jail deputies made Smith open his mouth and found what they believed to be marijuana, according to the report. They also found marijuana in his pocket and in his jail bunk.

Hill is being held on $1,000 bail for the felony contraband charge as well as $2,000 bail for allegedly failing to appear for a court hearing.
