Three-Time Bruiser: Man Hit By Pickup, Then Slapped With Two Tickets

Gita Sitaramiah Staff writer

Talk about a bad day.

John Wold’s run of rotten luck began when he was hit by a pickup truck while walking in downtown Spokane.

“It’s not been one of my better days,” he said Tuesday night.

Wold was taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center, where he was treated for minor injuries.

While at the hospital, Wold admitted to police that he crossed Riverside Avenue in the middle of the block.

He was told he would be cited for jaywalking.

Then, Wold’s Ford Ranger pickup - still parked a short distance from where he was hit - was ticketed.

Next to the $10 parking ticket was an anonymous note that said the car’s owner had been hit by a car. The note ended: “Do you really think he deserved a ticket?”

Wold, a Spokane Community College instructional technician, isn’t complaining about how he was treated.

He said he was walking across Riverside to the U.S. Post Office when he was hit by the pickup.

He said he looked both ways and saw an STA bus to his left. The bus was stopped so Wold began to walk.

Then, the bus began moving and Wold became nervous and hurried to avoid the bus.

That’s when he was hit by the pickup heading east.

“I’m normally a very cautious jaywalker,” he said.

He said he’s learned a lesson and won’t jaywalk anymore. “It was a stupid thing on my part,” he said. “I think I’ll stop now.”
