Final Four Tickets Mailed

Compiled From Wire Services

Tickets have been mailed to the fortunate few whose names were drawn by computer for the NCAA’s 1996 Final Four. Refunds are in the mail to more than 90,000 other applicants.

Limited seating at the Meadowlands Arena in East Rutherford, N.J., made the drawing for the 1996 basketball championship one of the most competitive, the NCAA said.

The organization received about 91,500 applications for about 1,000 tickets available to the general public.

Of the rest of the seats, about 10,000 are reserved for the four participating schools, and 7,500 are set aside for members of the National Association of Basketball Coaches, representatives of the NCAA membership and the host school, Rutgers University.

A prosecutor has decided against retrying Georgetown basketball player Allen Iverson for his role in a bowling alley brawl, according to a motion filed in Hampton, Va.

Three top 25 basketball teams are in the four-team field of the Black Coaches Association Basketball Classic scheduled Nov. 25 at Kemper Arena in Kansas City.

The field features Kansas, ranked No. 5 in the final AP poll last season, along with 12th-ranked Purdue, 19th-ranked Utah and Memphis State. Pairings have not yet been announced.
