NBA should take note

Hasn’t the NBA learned anything from baseball? I can’t understand why the owners would lock out the players in the middle of the summer. What is getting accomplished and what good is it doing? The NBA needs to wake up and realize that, if it’s not careful, it’s going to lose fans, too. I sincerely hope that the owners and players can reach agreement and we can have another fantastic basketball season. Andrea V. Wasson Spokane

Expand minor-league coverage

Why (excepting the Spokane Indians and the Northwest League) is minor-league baseball so completely ignored by the local media? Day after day, there is coverage of the major leagues, the Northwest League, American Legion ball and other popular and more obscure sports. Yet there is no mention of any of the other minor leagues. I am really surprised that we don’t have some sort of coverage of the Pacific Coast League. It is our regional triple-A league, with many teams in fairly close proximity. Specifically, we have the Tacoma Rainiers, the Mariners’ top farm team. But I have no idea of their place in the standings or their won/lost record. And it is the same with the rest of the PCL. Why do you so completely ignore the PCL? If you remember, this league was once considered for major-league status prior to the migration and expansion of major-league ball to the West Coast.

Due to time and space constraints, I can understand a lack of in-depth, comprehensive coverage. But can’t the television sports run selected minor league scores across the screen? Can’t the standings and results of these selected minor leagues be printed on a regular basis on the stat page of the sports section? Or, couldn’t the standings of all leagues in a particular class (A, AA, AAA, etc.) be printed almost once a week? AAA on Sunday. AA on Monday, etc.

Again, I am not asking for detailed coverage of the minor leagues - just an acknowledgement that they exist. David A. McChesney Spokane
