Guidebook To Simpson Trial Answers All Your Questions

Sallie James Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel

Mesmerized by the O.J. Simpson murder trial but stumped by the legalese? Don’t know the difference between lividity and Luminol?

Fort Lauderdale, Fla., attorney Milton P. Shafran has 148 pages of answers.

“A Case of Double Murder: People vs. O.J. Simpson” is a trial guidebook that explains everything from affidavits to aquittals and includes a detailed crime chronology that begins with the June murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman. The book ends with jury selection.

The book is the 44-year-old attorney’s answer to the flood of questions he received after the case broke and Simpson was arrested.

The book defines terms, answers questions, explains procedures, but draws no conclusions.

Wonder what lividity is? Page 132 says it’s discoloration of the body caused by the settling of blood. Page 59 says Luminol testing can detect the presence of blood after attempts are made to clean the area.

Assisted by longtime friend Bob Biondolillo, a Sunrise, Fla., police captain, Shafran put the book together after researching the case for about 10 weeks.

Shafran said he tried to explain things as simple as crime scene tape in case trial watchers do not realize its significance.

The book has chapters that explain jury selection, the role of witnesses, rules on examining witnesses, relevancy and hearsay evidence at trial.

Shafran’s book is available only through phone orders. Call 1-800-322-2700. The cost is $14.95, plus $2.95 for shipping and handling.
