Books Encourage Good Eating Habits
The Vegetarian Resource Group has published “I Love Animals and Broccoli Shopping Basket,” a free activity book for kids that’s designed to encourage good eating habits.
Activities include choosing good foods for breakfast and dinner, shopping at a farmers’ market and coping with peer pressure. A crossword puzzle introduces children to fruits, grains, vegetables and vegetarian foods. The book is designed for children 8 to 12 years of age.
The nonprofit Baltimore organization also offers “Leprechaun Cake and Other Tales - A Vegetarian Story-Cookbook,” with more than 40 recipes and four fantasy tales. This multicultural storybook stresses the importance of learning to accept others by sharing stories and good-tasting dishes.
Both books are available by mail. For a copy of “I Love Animals and Broccoli Shopping Basket,” send name and address and four firstclass stamps to The Vegetarian Resource Group, Box 1463, Baltimore, MD 21203. For a copy of “Leprechaun Cake and Other Tales,” send your name and address and a check or money order for $12 (which includes $2 shipping) to the same address.
