Military Persons Receive Awards For Excellence

Several Inland Northwest residents in the military have recently received awards.

Cpl. Christopher Little, son of Ralph and Marilee Little, Spokane, received the Army Commendation Medal. He is stationed with the Army as an assistant squad leader at Fort Carson, Colo., and is a 1992 graduate of Ferris High School.

Lance Cpl. Peter Bickford, son of Lyle and Holly Bickford, Spokane, has been selected as Marine of the Quarter for his squadron. He is stationed with the Marine Corps at El Toro, Santa Ana, Calif.

Petty Officer 1st Class Robert Anderson, son of George Anderson, Colville, Wash., received the Coast Guard Achievement Medal while serving with the 17th Coast Guard District Command Center in Juneau, Alaska. He is a 1975 graduate of Colville High School.

Petty Officer 3rd Class David Johnston, son of Bill and Dianne Johnston, Nine Mile Falls, received the Navy Achievement Medal while assigned with Personnel Support Detachment, Barbers Point, Hawaii. He is a 1993 graduate of Lakeside High School, Nine Mile Falls.

Lt. Col. Gordon Habbestad, a 1973 graduate of Lewis and Clark High School, recently was promoted to his present rank while serving with the Marine Corps at Headquarters, Special Operations Command, MacDill Air Force Base, Fla.

Rachel Bowie, a senior at Shadle Park High School, was included in the 96th edition of Who’s Who Among American High School Students. She is the daughter of Malcolm and Teresa Bowie, Spokane.
