He Was Searching For Some Sort Of Deliverance

In her new autobiography, Loni Anderson says ex-husband Burt Reynolds downed almost 40 pills a day and once threatened to kill himself, fearful she would leave him.

In “My Life in High Heels,” excerpted in November’s Good Housekeeping magazine, Anderson says she found out after moving in with Reynolds in 1981 that he was addicted to prescription drugs: Percodan for pain from movie stunts, Valium (later Halcion) for anxiety and Compazine to ease the bad reactions between the first two.

According to Anderson, a tearful Reynolds once put a gun to his head and said: “If you don’t stay with me, I’ll kill myself.” Another time, he handed her a gun and asked: “Why don’t you kill yourself and do us all a favor?”

A Reynolds spokesman said only that he “wishes her the best.”

Loose talk

Jonathan Silverman, star of NBC’s “The Single Guy,” on his real-life matrimonial plans: “Got to protect the show. When the show has had its run, that’s when I’ll get married. God, I hope it doesn’t get canceled this year!”

It’s no mystery that his time is getting shorter

Elmore Leonard turns 70 today.

Three words, buddy boy: Look who’s talking

John Travolta, following his “Pulp Fiction” success with “Get Shorty,” is getting tired of all the “comeback” media hype. As he told Time: “I’ve never quite figured out why I’m the comeback kid when another actor might just have a normal career of movies that work and don’t work.”

He’d rather be where nobody knows his name

Robert DeNiro isn’t the only celebrity punching out paparazzi these days. On his way home Sunday from former “Cheers” co-star Ted Danson’s wedding, Woody Harrelson hit a photographer who was taking pictures of his wife and 2-year-old daughter. No charges were filed.

That driver did shrink from his responsibility

Psychologist Dr. Joyce Brothers suffered a broken nose, chipped teeth and a concussion from an Alaskan accident in a four-wheel, all-terrain vehicle being pulled by sled dogs. When a fight broke out among the dogs, the driver jumped off and the four-wheeler tipped over.

So would she settle for diapers? Depends

Must run in the family. Designer Calvin Klein’s wife, Kelly, is coming out with a book titled “Underworld” for which, she told Bazaar magazine, “I called every museum, archive and historical society I could think of, every art dealer, photographer’s agent and photographer I knew, and asked, ‘Do you have any pictures of people in underwear?”’

He could teach Calvin all about obsession

Chuck Jones, Marla Maples Trump’s former publicist who was previously convicted of stealing 70 pairs of shoes and lingerie from her apartment, has been arrested again for faxing supposed nude photos of her to Donald Trump’s Plaza Hotel offices. The Donald, who called the photos fakes, declared: “He’s a very sick puppy.”
