Gonzaga U. Ranked Among Best In West

Gonzaga University is ranked the third-best university of its size in the West, according to the Sept. 18 U.S. News & World Report magazine.

Whitworth College ranked 12th.

Each year the magazine publishes rankings of colleges and universities, and divides them into groups based on size and geographical region. GU has 4,700 students and Whitworth has 2,000 students.

Trinity University in Texas and Santa Clara University in California topped the rankings for regional universities and colleges. Seattle University ranked ninth and Western Washington University 11th.

Seattle Pacific University was No. 13 and Pacific Lutheran University came in 15th.

Evergreen State College in Olympia ranked fifth in the West in a separate category for regional liberal arts colleges.

In a rating of the best buys, WWU was ranked in second place for universities its size in the West. The full cost of attending WWU is nearly $12,900 a year, including tuition, books, room and meals.

Gonzaga costs $18,540 a year to attend with the main difference being higher tuition. GU was ranked ninth on the best buy list.
