Lc Earns Second Softball Victory

Chalk up another win for the Lewis and Clark softball team. In Greater Spokane League action Friday, the Tigers defeated Central Valley 4-3 at Hart Field.

With the score tied at 3 in the bottom of the sixth inning, LC (2-10) freshman Sarah Babin singled to score Wendy Irvan with the winning run.

Olivia Smith pitched a complete game for the Tigers and finished with four strikeouts. CV is 7-4.

In another upset, at Mead, Rogers surprised the Panthers 5-2. The Pirates’ (4-7) Tami Bertholf scattered five hits against Mead (9-2).

Mead committed a season-high six errors.

With Mead’s loss, University’s 9-1 win at North Central (7-5) allowed the Titans (9-2) to move back into a first-place tie with the Panthers.

For U-Hi, Devon Bakken, Angela Whalen and Sally Jamison each drove in two runs. Meanwhile, U-Hi’s Jamie Fox struck out 10 and scattered six hits.

At Ferris (3-7), Gonzaga Prep motored past the Saxons late in the game for a 7-2 win. The Bullpups’ (8-4) Sarah Hession hit a bases-loaded double that helped break the game open.

G-Prep’s Katie Shrope struck out six and walked two in the win.

In Frontier League play, West Valley swept visiting Pullman, 13-0 and 16-4.

In the first game, WV’s Darcy Sohns threw a no-hitter, struck out 11 and was one error away from a perfect game.

The Eagles’ Gabby McClintock was 4 for 6 and scored four runs in the two games.

Baseball

Visiting Gonzaga Prep capitalized on six Ferris errors to beat the Saxons 8-4. The win put the Bullpups (9-4) in first place in the GSL.

North Central helped G-Prep’s cause when the Indians scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to squeak past visiting University 11-10.

Nick Pugliese’s bunt scored Justin Williams from third base for the game-winner for NC (4-9). Williams’ tripled to score Jeremy Hare - who led off the inning with a hit - for the game-tying run.

For U-Hi, Dave Powell was 4 for 4 - two of the hits were doubles - with two RBIs.

Each team finished with 12 hits and three errors.

The Titans’ (8-4) loss and Central Valley’s (8-4) win put the two in a tie for second place.

The Bears beat Lewis and Clark 11-3. CV’s Eric Eigenhaus got three hits, scored three times and drove in two runs against the Tigers (1-11).

At Seafirst Stadium, Mead got a two-run homer from Marcus Muzatko in the fourth to cap a big inning allowing the Panthers (7-4) to beat Rogers 9-0.

Mead’s shutout against the Pirates (3-10) was its second of the season. In both of those games, Rob Elmer was on the mound for the Pirates.
