Hints From Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Heloise: The plastic lids from large yogurt and cottage cheese containers are useful in several ways. They’re great for mixing paints for crafts. Also, they make good disposable spoon rests and, by punching a couple of holes in the lid (with a paper punch), they can be used as disposable lids when I have small containers of food to warm in the microwave. - Ruth Smith, Ava, Mo.

Dear Heloise: A quick and odor-free way to clean the glass on fireplace and oven doors is to dampen a paper towel in hot water. Dip it in the ashes and wipe the scum away. It’s that easy, and the ashes do not scratch the glass. I save some ashes in a container for summer use on the oven door. - Margaret Wilson, Modesto, Calif.
