Kirk Captains North Idaho Past Eastern Utah, 65-58

In a game pitting two of the Scenic West Athletic Conference’s leading scorers headto-head, North Idaho College’s Tanya Kirk won the battle over Lindsay Allen of Eastern Utah to pace the Cardinals past the Golden Eagles 65-58 in a women’s basketball game Friday night.

Kirk scored 26 points and pulled down 14 rebounds.

In an attempt to stop 6-foot-3 Allen, who is third in the Scenic West in scoring, NIC used a zone defense. However, Allen still exploited it for 21 points and nine rebounds.

The Cardinals led for most of the game and got 11 points from Shawna Rainer to compliment Kirk. An added boost came from Mandy Jacques, who replaced Aundria Howerton in the starting lineup as Howerton served a one-game suspension from the league for a rules violation.

“Mandy stepped up in the starting role and played well,” assistant coach Kristi Johnson said.

Allen was Eastern Utah’s (16-9, 6-7) only player who scored in double figures.

The win was the first of the year in Utah for the Cardinals (17-7, 7-7). They face Colorado Northwestern tonight in Rangely, Colo.
