Nic Routs Wyoming In Wrestling

From Staff And Wire Reports

The top-ranked North Idaho College wrestling team put on an impressive show Friday, winning handily over ninth-ranked Northwest Wyoming 37-6 in Missoula, Montana.

NIC’s Aaron McArthur pinned Winterhawk Winchief in the 275-pound class in 1:37. Winchief placed fourth at the JC nationals last year.

Northwest Wyoming’s only points came when Kevin Gimenez (190) pinned NIC’s Orlando Jordan. Gimenez is unbeaten on the year. NIC takes on Ricks College today at 3 p.m.

College football

Joe Sewell, who led Eastern Washington University in rushing last football season after recovering from severe injuries to each knee, has beaten the odds again.

The EWU senior has been granted an additional season of eligibility by the NCAA, which usually requires athletes to complete four years of eligibility in a five-year period.

Sewell petitioned for a one-year extension of the five-year rule - an extension that is rarely granted.

The 1991 Centralia High School graduate and former Walla Walla Community College player suffered knee injuries in the fall of 1992 and the fall of 1994 that required reconstructive surgery and kept him out of school for two quarters.

Sewell’s 1994 injury came in EWU’s final preseason scrimmage.
