Hints From Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Heloise: Many of our friends return from vacationing with us bearing delicate seashells that need protection during the trip back home.

My husband discovered that plastic containers that coffee filters are sold in work extremely well.

They are lightweight and their insides are coated and make for easy cleanup.

If wrapped in newspaper or paper towels, shells (and any other delicate items) remain clean and intact. - Carmen Embry, Sanibel Island, Fla.

Dear Heloise: My grandchildren like to eat breakfast on the floor in front of the TV. To protect my carpet, I use an old plastic tablecloth, flannel side up, for them to sit on.

If they have a spill, the flannel soaks it up and the plastic keeps it off the carpet. This makes for a worry-free breakfast for both kids and grandmother. - Jackie Browning, Abilene, Texas
