U.S. Women’s Soccer Team Wins

Compiled From Wire Services

At Davidson, N.C., Tiffeny Milbrett and Kristine Lilly scored one goal apiece to lead the United States women’s national soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Germany. The match was played before 3,459 spectators. The victory was the 10th in 12 games (10-1-1) this year for the United States, which is in preparation for the first women’s Olympic tournament.

The Italian Soccer Players Association strike wiped out nine matches Saturday and today in Rome. Union head Sergio Campana says the main issue is voting representation on the council that oversees the sport in Italy. Other sticking points are new transfer rules and limits on hiring of non-Europeans.
