Skiing on the edge, defending champion Daron Rahlves of the U.S. Ski Team used an all-or-nothing approach to win the men’s giant slalom at the U.S. Alpine Championships.

Kristina Koznick, the women’s slalom favorite, won her specialty to help salvage a disappointing season in World Cup.

Rahlves, of Truckee, Calif., finished the two runs of the giant slalom with a combined time of 2 minutes, 16.87 seconds. Chris Puckett of Crested Butte, Colo., was second at 2:17.53.

Koznick, of Burnsville, Minn., finished with a combined time of 1:23.74.
