6 Schools To Get New Principals In Fall

From Staff And Wire Reports

Five Spokane elementary schools and one high school will have new principals next fall.

Nelda Gaffney, principal at Indian Trail Elementary, will retire this summer.

Brad Lundstrom, principal at Holmes, will transfer to Indian Trail. Denise Sandbo, principal at Woodridge, will replace Lundstrom at Holmes. Bob Pedersen, principal at Wilson, will transfer to Woodridge.

In addition, John Corigliano at Whitman plans to return to teaching after five years as a principal in the Spokane School District. Corigliano said the challenging job of being a principal took too much time away from his family.

“My pie was getting too lopsided,” he said.

The district has not yet hired principals for Whitman, Wilson or Shadle Park High. Shadle Principal Mike Dunn was hired recently by Mead School District.

The multiple transfers result from matching principals with schools where their skills are needed, said Assistant Superintendent Mark Anderson.
