Bite The Bird

So you’re ready to try the big bird ostrich, that is but you only want a little taste to start? Ostrich Products Corp. of Cheney has come out with an ostrich jerky, as well as snack slabs and ropes made of ostrich mixed with a little beef, under the Biltong label (which means dried meat in the birds’ native Africa). Made with natural preservatives, they deliver a distinctive flavor and less fat and sodium than regular beef snacks.

It’s one small snack for man, but one giant leap for ostrichkind.

Price: Around $2.50 for 1-1/2 ounces.

Available: Various convenience stores and taverns, including Wallaby’s Pub in Airway Heights, Overland Station in Medical Lake, Maple Leaf Grocery on Geiger Boulevard, Four Lakes Exxon and Ray’s Conoco in Cheney. For more information, call 838-6828.
