Alberto Tomba put aside the problems that have resulted in a sub-par season with a victory in the final World Cup slalom prior to the World Alpine Championships.

The victory was Tomba’s 33rd slalom and 48th overall World Cup win.

He won with a two-run time of 1 minute, 35.87 seconds. That was .16 seconds ahead of the first-run leader, Austria’s Thomas Stangassinger, who finished second in 1:36.03. France’s Sebastien Amiez was third in 1:36.19.
