Sonnens Recently Chosen Knight Family Of Year

Gary and Sandra Sonnen, and children Jessica and Joe, have been chosen as the Knight Family of the Year by the St. Pius Knights of Columbus Council 1163 of Coeur d’Alene.

Gary, a charter member, deputy grand knight and owner/operator of Sonnen Electric Inc., has volunteered in the Knights and parish activities in tasks including church usher, breakfasts and dinners, North Idaho Fair booth, Fall Festival, and building and yard work on church grounds.

Sandra, a civil engineering and design drafter for Welch, Comer and Associates, has volunteered in church and parish activities, has taught elementary religion education classes for five years and prepared first-Communion classes for two years. She also participates in children’s Masses and helps at the Knights’ functions.

The Sonnens are involved with community projects that include parent participation at Dalton Elementary School, local youth soccer functions, T-ball, and adult and youth Park and Recreation programs.

Joe and Jessica are involved in Science Fair, religion classes, altar service, reading at first-Communion Mass, child care, swimming lessons, T-ball, soccer, softball, piano and volunteering at nursing-care facilities on Christmas and Valentine’s Day.

John Eixenberger, Rathdrum, was recently named as a division commissioner in Flood Control District 17 and reappointed as commissioner of Division 4.

Eixenberger, who covers Twin Lakes and Rathdrum Creek in Division 17 and the Twin Lakes/ Rathdrum Creek Flood Control District segment inside the corporate limits of Rathdrum, will serve a three-year term.

Jesse S. Sherman, a 1995 Ferris High School graduate and son of Doris Thiesing of Spokane, and Randall Sherman of Athol, has enlisted in the army as an automated logistical specialist and recently departed for basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.

Sherman joined the Army to meet the physical and mental challenges.

Jennifer M. Phelps, a senior at Priest River High School and daughter of Jim Phelps and Lora Poirier, both of Priest River, has enlisted in the Army’s Delayed Entry Program as a unit supply specialist (airborne) and will depart for basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C., in July.

Phelps, who is active in golf, basketball, soccer, French Club, Spanish Club, and Letterman’s Pep Club, has enrolled in the GI Bill for up to $15,403 toward full-time schooling. She joined the Army for money for college.
