The head of the ATP Tour is proposing a new ranking system intended to enhance the Italian Open and other top non-Grand Slam events.

A player’s ranking would be determined by his results in the four Grand Slams, a reduced number of top tier tournaments now known as the Super 9, and a group of smaller events, said Mark Miles, chief executive officer of the ATP Tour.

The Stanford women’s tennis team avenged its only loss of the season with crushing 5-1 victory over top-seeded Florida on Sunday to win the NCAA Division I championship at Stanford, Calif.
